Queues – Admission – Online tickets
The Rijksmuseum Amsterdam is one of the most important art museums in the world. More than 2 million visitors come to see the unique collection of artworks every year. As a result, there are often queues, not only at the ticket office.
Since 2022, only online tickets with the date and time of entry will be sold.

Since only online tickets with a fixed date and time for admission have been available, things have been much more relaxed at the entrance to the Rijksmuseum. There are usually still short queues in front of the museum. The online tickets are checked at the museum entrance.
Online tickets – important information
- Since 2022 only online tickets will be sold. Tickets are sold for a specific date with a fixed entry time. There is only a limited number of tickets per admission time. This is how visitor numbers are regulated.

- Admission for children and young people is free. Nevertheless, you must book an online ticket for your desired visiting time.

Confusion: Rijksmuseum and Het Rembrandthuis Museum
Some visitors to Amsterdam confuse the Rijksmuseum with the Rembrandthuis.
The reason is obvious. The Rijksmuseum shows important works by the famous Dutch painter Rembrandt van Rijn.
Rembrandt in focus, but with a different perspective
In Het Rembrandthuis Museum (Rembrandt House), the focus is also on this artist. The Rembrandthuis is the painter’s former home. He lived there between 1639 and 1658, and his art shop and studio were also located here.

The house with the green shutters is the former home of Rembrandt van Rijn. Today it houses the “Museum Rembrandthuis”. Here you can visit the painter’s living and working quarters. (Image: J. Chatelain, CC 2.0 licence)
